The area of Infectious Diseases deals with a range of infectious disease problems caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi or parasites. Infectious diseases may be acquired locally from the community, during travel, through occupational exposure or from other environments. Examples include pneumonia, dengue fever, HIV, tuberculosis, influenza, sexually transmissible infections, viral hepatitis, infections in the immunocompromised, tropical and travel-related infections, and other serious community and hospital-acquired infections.
