认识我们 2026 年 7 月的 DAISY 奖获奖者
06 October 2026

Have you ever stopped to notice the care, effort and dedication a nurse gives you during your hospital stay? For our July 2026 DAISY Award Honouree, Siti Nur Syazana Binti Zairul Rijaluddin, a Staff Nurse from Ward 3E, it was the little things she did for a patient that stood out to him and his wife, prompting her to nominate Syazana for this award recognising nurses who go above and beyond in caring for patients.
The Moment of Recognition
Currently stationed in Ward 3E, Syazana has been part of Sunway Medical Centre, Sunway City for over four years. Throughout her nursing journey, she has had the opportunity to grow professionally and learn from different experiences and care for countless patients.
When her name was announced as the July 2026 DAISY Award Honouree, she was not expecting it. “Honestly, I was shocked. For a moment, I couldn’t really process that my name was being called. But when the committee member started reading the nomination message aloud, it sounded familiar to me,” Syazana recalls.
The moment brought a mixture of surprise, happiness and gratitude. “It was a very humbling moment because I never became a nurse expecting to receive recognition. I was simply trying to do my best for my patients. So knowing that my care had touched someone enough for them to nominate me was incredibly meaningful.”
Small Acts of Care, Lasting Memories
For nurses, caring for patients often involves more than completing clinical tasks. It can also mean offering reassurance, noticing when someone needs help and being present during moments when patients may feel anxious or vulnerable. And for Syazana, these moments are among the most meaningful parts of nursing.
“One of the experiences that stays with me is caring for patients who were initially very anxious, frightened or uncertain about what was happening to them, and then seeing them slowly become more comfortable and confident because of the care and reassurance we provided.”
It was this same attention to the little things that caught the attention of the patient who nominated Syazana. Her care and dedication stood out not only to the patient, but also to his wife, who noticed the effort she put into making his hospital experience more comfortable.
Syazana also enjoys having casual conversations with her patients. For her, these simple conversations are another way of building a connection and helping patients feel more at ease. Some conversations continue even after her patients are preparing to leave the hospital!

Staying Strong Through the Demands of Nursing
While the rewarding moments are an important part of nursing, Syazana also recognises that the profession comes with challenges that are not always seen by many.
“One challenge people may not always see is the emotional side of nursing. We care for patients during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives, and sometimes we carry those experiences with us even after our shift ends,” she explains.
Despite the challenges, her patients and colleagues continue to be a source of motivation. “There are definitely difficult days in my job, but knowing that someone is depending on me gives me a reason to keep going. Every shift is an opportunity to make a difference, even if that difference is something small,” she says.
Seeing a patient improve, hearing a patient say “thank you”, or knowing that she has helped someone feel safe makes even the most difficult days worthwhile.
A Reminder That Nursing Care Matters
Personally to Syazana, receiving the DAISY Award is a reminder that the work nurses do matters. “To be honest, nursing can sometimes feel like an underappreciated job because we are constantly moving from one patient to another and focusing on what needs to be done next. This award made me stop for a moment and realise that the care we give can stay with people long after we have forgotten about the interaction.”
She remains grateful to the person who nominated her, as well as to her patients and colleagues who have supported her throughout her nursing journey.
“For me, the DAISY Award isn’t just recognition. It’s a reminder to continue being the kind of nurse I would want caring for someone I love.”
Syazana’s journey is a reminder that nursing is about more than clinical skills. Sometimes, it is the reassurance a nurse can offer, the extra care given and the small moments of kindness that patients and their families remember most.
Congratulations once again to Syazana on being our DAISY Honouree for July 2026! We are proud to celebrate her heart, patience and compassion she brings to every patient she cares for.
