Restoring Form, Function and Confidence with Reconstructive Surgery
The Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department helps patients recover the appearance and function of their bodies after cancer, trauma, congenital difference and disease. We also provide cosmetic surgery to the same clinical standard.
Our surgeons practise reconstructive microsurgery, which involves transferring tissue with its blood supply and repairing vessels and nerves under an operating microscope. This is often used in free flap reconstruction after breast cancer and head and neck cancer, reconstruction after trauma, nerve repair and transfer, and supermicrosurgery for lymphoedema.
Our surgeons work alongside consultants in orthopaedics, oncology, ENT, ophthalmology and dermatology, and contribute to the multidisciplinary meetings where reconstruction is planned before resection takes place.
