Advanced Lymphoscintigraphy for Accurate Early Cancer Detection
Our advanced lymphoscintigraphy scan provides a detailed view of your lymphatic system, helping detect blockages, lymphedema, and the sentinel lymph node — the first site cancer may spread. With precise imaging, we support early cancer detection and guide treatment plans that avoid unnecessary surgery.
How Lymphoscintigraphy Works
- A small amount of radiotracer is injected under the skin near the area being examined.
- The radiotracer travels through the lymphatic vessels, emitting gamma radiation. This is detected using SPECT/CT imaging, which produces images that map lymphatic flow.
- This technique also helps locate the sentinel node, which is the first regional lymph node to which cancer may spread from the primary tumour.
- Once the sentinel node is identified, the surgeon will sample it during surgery to determine whether cancer is present in the node. If the result is negative, the patient can avoid the need for radical lymphadenectomy.
Uses of Lymphoscintigraphy
- Detecting lymphatic blockages (i.e., lymphoedema)
- Sentinel node mapping and sampling for breast cancer and skin cancer (melanoma)
