Our diets affect us in many different ways, from fuelling our growth to helping prevent disease and faster recovery from sickness, what we choose to eat & ways to eat correctly has a big impact on our lives.

SunMed Dietetics & Nutrition Services offers a comprehensive range of medical nutrition therapies, individual diet counselling, nutrition and lifestyle counseling, and preventive programmes that contributes towards a better health, wellbeing, productivity and lifestyle.

Our Service Philosophy (3E’s):

  • At SunMed Dietetics & Nutrition Services, we ENCOURAGE our clients and patients to enjoy eating well for health, instead of telling them NOT to eat. We want all to eat right and eat well to improve the health status and maintain good health.
  • We EMPOWER our clients to set personal and sensible nutrition goals and help them fit these goals into their work and family commitments.
  • We provide EVIDENCE BASED nutrition information and advice. Our dietitians assess the client’s current diet, and apply the relevant scientific research evidence to translate the requirements into easy and practical dietary and lifestyle tips.

Our dietitians provide personalised, practical advice and supports to all in- and out-patients and the community in a professional environment. Our competent diet technicians assisted in monitoring in-patients’ meals especially those on a therapeutic diet by ensuring nutritional therapy is carried out before diet intervention by dieticians is required.

We provide professional menu analysis and planning for hotels, child care centres, nursing homes, school and workplace canteens, and restaurants.

We also conduct in-house training for chefs and cooks who cater for guests with special dietary needs.

LEAN Club

Lau Wai Hong (Celeste)
Senior Manager, Dietetics

MD Nutrition & Dietetics, AUS
BSc (Hons) Nutrition, UKM

Celeste Lau received her Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree in Nutrition from UKM and further pursued her Master's in Dietetics & Nutrition from Flinders University of South Australia.

She is a member of the Malaysian Dietitians' Association and the Nutrition Society of Malaysia. She is currently appointed as a member of the MDA Allied Health Act Advisory Committee for 2020-2022. She is also one of the committee members involved in developing the Medical Nutrition Guidelines for Cancer in Adults in Malaysia.

She conducts talks, workshops, and weight management programmes for the public and corporate sectors. She also delivers talks to doctors, nurses, and other allied health professionals. In addition to writing journals for health magazines and newspapers, she has also been interviewed by radio and TV stations on health-related issues. Currently, she is the head of the Department of Dietetics & Nutrition Services at Sunway Medical Centre.

Despite her management responsibilities, she has a special interest in children's health and nutrition for chronic diseases.

Tan Jie Sin (Jessie)
Assistant Manager, Dietetics

BSc (Hons) Dietetics, UPM

Tan Jie Sin received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Dietetics from University Putra Malaysia. She is currently an active member of the Malaysian Dietitians’ Association (MDA).

Jie Sin started her career as a clinical dietitian at a government hospital in Klang. She then joined a private hospital in Klang Valley before joining Sunway Medical Centre, working across different disciplines.

She is a practicing dietitian who is involved in providing diet counselling, medical nutrition therapy, and nutrition support for patients with different diseases.

She conducts health talks for corporations and the public, executes educational programmes for food service staff and nurses, and is also involved in writing health e-newsletters.

She has a strong interest in managing patients with cancer, obesity, and cardiac disease.

Saw Bee Suan
Senior Dietitian, Dietetics
Bachelor of Health Sciences Dietetics (Hons), USM

Bee Suan received her Bachelor of Health Science in Dietetics credential from University Science Malaysia. She is currently an active member of the Malaysian Dietitians’ Association (MDA) and PENSMA.

In her current role as Senior Dietitian at Sunway Medical Centre, she establishes, monitors, and reviews the standard nutrition practice guidelines and protocols at Sunway Medical Centre.
She is also a practicing dietitian who is involved in nutrition support and medical nutrition therapy and provides diet counselling to individuals of all age groups, from children to the elderly, with different health issues and diseases.

Additionally, she is a public speaker for corporate companies and communities and a panellist for local magazines and radio stations.

Bee Suan's special interests include managing patients with eating disorders, paediatric nutrition, and cancer care.

Tia Yu En
Dietitian, Dietetics

BSc (Hons) Dietetics with Nutrition, IMU

Tia Yu En received her Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree in Dietetics with Nutrition from the International Medical University. She is currently an active member of the Malaysian Dietitians’ Association (MDA).

Currently, as a clinical dietitian at Sunway Medical Centre, she provides diet counselling and nutrition education. This includes interventions for patients with weight problems, diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, cancer, or patients requiring nutrition support such as enteral and parenteral nutrition.

Her special interest includes medical nutrition therapy for patients with critical and chronic diseases such as diabetes and kidney disease.

Ng Hi Ming
Dietitian, Dietetics

MSc Medical Science, Taylor’s University
Bachelor of Health Sciences Dietetics (Hons), USM

Mr Ng Hi Ming received his Bachelor of Health Science (Honours) in Dietetics from Universiti Sains Malaysia and further pursued a master's degree in Medical Science from Taylor's University. He is currently an active member of the Malaysian Dietitians’ Association.

Hi Ming first started his career as a dietitian in a community pharmacy. Then, he joined as a research dietitian in a renal nutrition research team for multiple research projects and clinical trials. He also conducts public health talks, develops educational tools, and conducts research.

Currently working as a clinical dietitian at Sunway Medical Centre, he provides medical nutrition therapy, such as nutritional counselling and support for disease prevention. He specialises in a wide range of diseases, including diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, cancer, weight problems, and malnourishment, as well as providing nutrition support for critically ill patients requiring tube-feeding and intravenous-feeding.

His special interests lie in nutrition for kidney disease, critically ill patients, and paediatrics.

 

Bee Swen Yeen
Dietitian, Dietetics

BSc (Hons) Dietetics with Nutrition, IMU

Bee Swen Yeen graduated from International Medical University with a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics with Nutrition. She had completed research on haemodialysis patients who were at risk of malnutrition, which subsequently stirred up her interest in chronic kidney disease and dialysis patients. She is an active member of the Malaysia Dietitians’ Association (MDA).

“In seeking solutions for illness, both medical treatment and nutrition care share a common goal, which is to conquer illnesses.” Holding on to this belief, she is serving the various needs of patients' nutritional requirements, such as oral and tube feeding plus parenteral nutrition, across all categories of patients, either as in- or outpatients. Equally important is nutritional counselling for patients who are constantly seeking to improve their health.

She has a special interest in diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and critically ill patients.

 

Mashitah Sha An Ali
Dietitian, Dietetics
Bachelor of Dietetics (Hons) , UKM

Mashitah received her Bachelor of Dietetics degree from the University Kebangsaan Malaysia. She is currently a member of the Malaysian Dietitians’ Association (MDA).

She started her career as a foodservice dietitian at a government hospital in Kuala Lumpur, where she is involved in menu planning and monitoring food quality. She also provides training to F&B staff to improve their understanding of diet at the hospital. She is passionate about promoting a healthy lifestyle and providing practical advice on food and nutrition.

She has a special interest in cancer nutrition and critical care.

 

Goh Yu Shaine

Goh Yu Shaine

BSc (Hons) Dietetics with Nutrition, IMU

Goh Yu Shaine is a dietitian who obtained her degree in dietetics from the International Medical University, Malaysia. She is also an active member of the Malaysian Dietitians’ Association. Yu Shaine is clinically trained in providing medical nutrition therapy, nutrition education, and counselling to patients with various medical conditions such as weight management, diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease, and more. At Sunway Medical Centre, she also plays a role in ensuring adequate nutritional delivery for those who require enteral or parenteral nutrition. Her passions include improving nutritional literacy among the public and providing understandable information to those seeking nutritional advice.

Her special interests include cancer nutrition, geriatric nutrition, and critical care.

 

Wan Li Yin
Senior Dietitian, Dietetics
BSc (Hons) Dietetics, UKM, MHSc Clinical Nutrition, UKM

Wan Li Yin is a qualified Dietitian with a Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Dietetics and a Master of Health Science in Clinical Nutrition from UKM. Li Yin has obtained ServeSafe Certification in food service management and has attended A Practical Approach to Hazards Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) programme.

She is also an active member of the Malaysian Dietitians’ Association.
She is currently a practicing dietitian. Her passion is to assist patients in improving their health through diet and nutrition. During diet counselling, Li Yin emphasises the importance of nutrition, explains how diet influences health, and provides diet plans, advice, encouragement, and support to her patients on their healing journey. She also provides nutritional talks and has experience in community nutrition and tertiary education as a certified HRDF trainer. Before joining SunMed, she worked as a university lecturer.

She supervises the Food & Beverage team of the hospital to provide meals for in-patients and the cafeteria. Additionally, she develops in-patient menus and provides therapeutic diet training to staff.

 

Shirley Seah Szu Ying
Dietitian, Dietetics
PhD in Paediatrics, UKM, Master of Nutrition & Dietetics, University of Sydney, Australia, BSc Food Science, University of Melbourne, Australia

Dr Shirley received her Master's in Nutrition and Dietetics from the University of Sydney in Australia. Thereafter, she obtained her PhD in Paediatrics from UKM, Malaysia, specialising in nutrition for preterm infants. She is also a member of the Malaysian Dietitians' Association.

Dr Shirley has conducted clinical trials involving preterm infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). She has published in peer-reviewed journals and presented key findings from her clinical research at international and national scientific meetings. She is also the creator of NUTRI-CAL NEONATAL, a digital growth tracking and energy nutrient calculator that assists healthcare professionals in managing the nutrition of very low birth weight preterm infants in the NICU.

Dr Shirley's main interests are in neonatal nutrition, paediatric nutrition, and food allergies and food intolerances. She uses evidence-based clinical practices to promote better health outcomes among neonates and children.
