The scope of bacteriology testing includes bacterial culture and identification as well as antibiotic susceptibility testing whereas the scope of mycology testing includes yeast and fungus culture, yeast identification as well as susceptibility testing for yeast.

What this test for?

Blood cultures are used to detect the presence of bacteria or fungi in the blood that cause septicemia.

Specimen & Container: Adult: 8 – 10ml blood, inoculated aseptically into aerobic and/or anaerobic bottles. Paediatric: 1 – 4ml into inoculated aseptically into aerobic (yellow top) bottle.

Transportation Requirement: Room temperature and specimen should be delivered to the laboratory promptly after collection.
